Five categories, branching choices
EA describes the new structure as branched rather than linear. The stated design goal is meaningful specialization, so a player develops an identity instead of mastering every route at once.
Each position has its own combination of skills, abilities, and X-Factors. A useful build guide therefore needs position-level evidence rather than one universal tier list.

What EA has shown about ability effects
EA gives two examples of the intended range: a quarterback Mental path can improve awareness and surface incoming-pressure information before the snap, while a receiver Physical path can unlock an extra burst after clearing the final line of defense.
These examples confirm the design direction, not a complete node list or a ranking of the strongest routes.
Cap Breakers and progression boundaries
EA describes Cap Breakers as the rarest type of upgrade point. They are intended to exceed normal archetype boundaries and may bring additional abilities into reach.
The official material ties them to G.O.A.T. Journey progress or exceptional feats. It does not establish the exact earning rate, storage cap, refund behavior, or whether a spent point can be reassigned.
Make an upgrade choice without a fake tier list
Start with your position and the on-field role you want to improve, then compare only the nodes visible on that position's tree. Record each prerequisite, cost, visible effect, game version, and test date before committing scarce points.
EA says future live content can add Skill Trees, abilities, mechanics, and progression paths. A saved build therefore needs a version label and a fresh check after an update.
